Meet the Committee

Chairman

Sheila Purser

I am proud to lead a great team that works hard for our practices, practitioners and patients alike.
In my role as Chairman I attend multiple meetings with the ICBs and Trusts, where we have been able to secure some great community services which puts Optometry at the forefront of patient care within Essex.

Secretary

Victoria Hamilton-Barr

Vickie has been a dedicated member of the committee since July 2023, serving as the Secretary since July 2024. Her passion for organisation and attention to detail make this role a perfect fit. As a Dispensing Optician, she loves helping people and enjoys the rewarding interactions she has with her patients.

Treasurer & IT Officer

David Dixon

David has been the Treasurer for Essex LOC since June 2023 & the IT officer since October 2015. He has been on the committee for several years and enjoys working with his fellow committee members to help practitioners across Essex.

Vice Chair

Chris Rushen

There are great opportunities for expanded roles, but the funding is not forthcoming. So, in the meantime I believe we must think of funding practices with realistic private fees and not to cross subsidise from sales.

I believe a large barrier to realistic examination fees, is us.

Clinical Lead

Emma Spofforth

“If you want a job doing properly, do it yourself” was the old adage that got Emma involved in the LOC in 2010.  We all need to rally together to improve eyecare for patients and practitioners alike.  As Clinical Lead, Emma meets with all local commissioners and the hospital staff to try and achieve this aim.

Katie Kingcott

Administrator

Katie is the long-standing, long-suffering administrator for Essex LOC and will hopefully be a familiar face from organising our numerous CPD events over the years.
